Literature Text

A dragonfly flitting in the forest
One day whispered some words in my ear
It said my life would be just great
“Don’t worry,” said he, “you’re in the clear”

But then things just fell apart
And times went all wrong
Why is this happening to me?
Weren’t things supposed to be good all along?

Why isn’t my life better than this?
Are all these bad things going to be allowed?
When did my gentle morning rain
Turn into a hulking thundercloud?

I met that dragonfly again
While driving just the other day
He splattered my windshield at high speed
That’s the price for playing on life’s expressway

Although we’d like to know the future
That’s something no one can ascertain
Dragonflies are said to forecast weather
But not all of them can foretell rain
This poem was based off the American Indian belief that dragonflies are special spirit guides that can foretell the future.

Wow, the last stanza is fantastic.

That's sad about the dragonfly. :(

I like the idea that they may be spiritual guides. I've always loved dragonflies. I do feel as if there's something special about them.

Excellent work.
